I have been empowered by accidents and twists of fate, strengthened through necessity and discovered it is not what happens to you but how you react to it that marks you.
I take this song with me, it is tucked into the pocket of my heart.
You Got The Power, has always been an a cappella, sung without instrumentation, if you are a producer and you would like to remix it, go ahead and have fun with it, and please send me a link, I’d love to hear it!
Share it on your social and tag me in it!
If you decide you want to distribute it, you must give me credit as a songwriter. I am going to trust you on this.
I really appreciate the fact that you are reading this and took interest in this song.
The world is better with you in it.
In a time, long before I had children…
I was sitting in my Volkswagen Rabbit, in a parking lot in Florida, peering out into the Gulf of Mexico. I remember feeling full of angst. I was unhappy with where I was, not only the location but where my life seemed to be going.
I felt like I had no purpose, no drive, and hated the work I was doing.
I gripped the steering wheel and wished the car would take me away from the life I was living. For a long time I lived like that, moving away, relocating. I kept expecting the new location to give me a sense of peace. I was always left feeling stagnant and unchanged.
Here I sat, in a parked car, with gulf breeze drifting in, sunshine in my face and all I could do was wish I was somewhere else.
My voice started to soothe me with these words:
You got the power to change your world
No matter what your age no matter what your color
No matter what you do
No matter what you’ve done
You got the power to change your world
Look inside yourself
Find a little peace
Look inside yourself
It may be hidden deep
He has to have the power if we want to build a better world. How this can be done you will find it in my book A Therapy for Dying Democracies, Dorrance Publishing Co, USA
